Welcome to the Jefferson County Public Library Summer Reading page! JCPL Summer Reading is an annual reading program that runs from Monday, June 3, 2024, through Friday, July 19, 2024.

The theme for this year is “Adventure Begins at Your Library!”

All ages are welcome to participate. Youth earn prizes like toys, food coupons, free books, and more! Adults earn drawing entries for weekly gift card drawings. Prizes can be picked up at the Madison Library and Hanover Branch locations of Jefferson County Public Library until July 19. Youth who complete the summer program are invited to a Pizza Party at the Brown Gym on July 20. There will also be grand prize drawings for youth ages 0-10 and 11-17.

The Summer Reading program offers many family-friendly programs and activities throughout June and July including crafts, story times, animal shows, a petting zoo, magic show, and more. All Library programs are free. Some programs require registration. Check our Events Calendar for a full listing of Library programs or call the Madison Library at 812-265-2744.

Beanstack

Use Beanstack to track your Summer Reading Progress and earn prizes from the Library! Just go to mjcpl.beanstack.org to create a profile and log your reading. We suggest using your first and last name (no spaces or caps) as the username. The password will automatically be set as beanstack but you can always change it in your account.

Children (Ages Birth-10)

Earn prizes for every 3 hours of reading and a chance to win local gift certificates! No registration needed, just complete reading cards and return them to the Library OR enter your information to Beanstack at mjcpl.beanstack.org to collect prizes and be entered in drawings. Complete 4 logs (12 hours) to finish Summer Reading. Those who want to keep filling out cards after 4 will get more chances to win the bi-weekly gift card drawings.

Teens (Ages 11-17)

Earn a free book for every 5 hours read and a chance to win local gift certificates! No registration needed, just complete reading cards and return them to the Library OR enter your information to Beanstack at mjcpl.beanstack.org to collect prizes and be entered in drawings. Complete 4 reading logs (20 hours) to finish Summer Reading. Those who want to keep filling out cards after 4 will get more chances to win the bi-weekly gift card drawings.

JCPL Summer Reading 2024 Finisher’s Party

All youth ages 0-17 who have completed Summer Reading are welcome to attend the Finisher's Pizza Party. The party will be at the Brown Gym on Broadway on July 20. Registration is required. Space is limited.

Adults (Ages 18+)

For each book read, submit an entry form at either library OR enter your information to Beanstack at mjcpl.beanstack.org to be entered in drawings! Four gift card winners will be drawn each week.
