REGULAR MEETING OF THE JEFFERSON COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES

The meeting was opened at the Hanover Library at 4:06 P.M. by Vice-President Wurtz. RIddle moved to approve the agenda. Phillips seconded.

Minutes
Riddle moved to accept the minutes from the regular September meeting as presented. Joyce seconded. Motion carried.

Friends of the Library

  • Terpening reported that $5118.37 was made at the Fall Book Sale.

Financial Report
Culp gave the financial report:

  • Operating Fund expenditures September 13 through October 10, 2019 were $93,285.37. Expenditures from all funds were $105,613.73. Operating Fund receipts were $4184.27. Receipts to all funds were $16,195.81. Balance in the Operating Fund as of October 10 was $924,120.91. Total bank balance was $1,449,141.57.

  • There was 1 check over $6000:

    • $10,119.12 to Jefferson County Treasurer for health insurance premiums (Library paid $7940.60).

Phillips moved to accept the financial report as presented.  Joyce seconded. Motion carried.

Director’s report
Terpening reported the following:

Adult Programming

  • 20 events with 441 attendees.

  • We gave away 85 coats and signed up 30 people for library cards at the “Warm Welcome to the Library” program.

Teen Programming

  • 11 events with 12 attendees.

  • Reused magazine art program was held at Madison and Hanover.

Youth Services

  • 17 events with 413 attendees.

  • We hosted a meet and greet for homeschoolers with snacks and information about library services.

Circulation

  • Daily people count was up.

  • Our online presence is growing with increased Facebook “likes” and e-services.

Staff

  • Hanover Branch Manager, Rebecca Lathrem received an invitation to the National Society of Leadership and Success from Ivy Tech.

  • Staff member, Holly Poling received the “Difference is You” award at the DIY Conference on September 13th.

Training

  • Kendra McAdams attended the Indiana Memory Conference on September 27.

  • Five staff members attended the DIY Conference on September 13.

  • Terpening attended the ILF Legislative Fall Forum on October 3 and the Director’s Roundtable on September 27.

  • The library will be closed on October 14 for Staff Development Day.

Programming

  • Winter Reading programs are being planned for adults, children, and teens.

Miscellaneous

  • We placed an ad in the Roundabout to recognize our Friends group for National Friends of Libraries Week. The Board also provided donuts for volunteers working the Fall Book Sale.

  • The Roundabout printed an article about the “Fountain of Culture” book.

  • King’s Daughters’ will begin accepting the County health insurance October 1, 2019 and through December 2020

Continuing Business

  • None.

New Business

  • An update “Confidentiality of Records” policy was presented. It will be reviewed by the Policy Review Committee and voted on at the November meeting.
