REGULAR MEETING OF THE JEFFERSON COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES

The meeting was opened at 4:00 P.M. by President Wurtz. The agenda was approved on a motion by Butler and a second by Rosenberg.

Minutes
Joyce made a motion to approve the minutes from the October regular meeting as presented. Seconded by Ryle. Motion carried.

Financial Report
Culp gave the financial report:

  • Operating Fund expenditures October 9 through November 12, 2020 were $122,427.72. Expenditures from all funds were $196,951.15. Operating Fund receipts were $55,651.06. Receipts to all funds were $72,445.49. Balance in the Operating Fund as of November 12 was $1,048,642.88. Total bank balance was $1,536,876.17.

  • There was 1 check over $6,000:

    • $9,132.71 to Jefferson County Treasurer for health insurance premiums.

  • The Finance Committee met and agreed that investing with TrustIndiana would be our best option. It was suggested that we invest at least $100,000.00 since all funds are readily available at any time with no penalty. Discussion will continue at the December meeting.

Rosenberg moved to accept the financial report as presented. Joyce seconded. Motion carried.

Director Terpening’s report

Adult Programming

  • 7 programs with 286 attendees

  • We hosted 2 Red Cross blood drives with a total of 58 attendees

  • Online Drawing and Painting Class had a total of 224 participants in 4 classes

  • Hanover Book Group had 4 attendees.

Youth Services

  • 17 programs with 468 attendees.

  • Grab & Go crafts continued.

  • Story Times had 744 views on Facebook and 807 views on our YouTube channel.

  • We had a Pet Parade and a Pumpkin Contest.

  • Hope Westmoreland was hired as a new part time assistant for the Children's Department.

Circulation

  • Physical checkouts increased by 500 and we had 800 more visitors to the library in October. Online checkouts are staying about the same.

Staff and Volunteers

  • One of our staff members did a Veteran's Day display in November.

  • "Staff Picks" are back on display.

  • Lathrem, McAlister and Randall have all earned straight A's in their library course work.

Training

  • Most staff members will attend the virtual ILF Conference on November 17. Both libraries will be closed to the public that day. About half of the staff will attend from home and half will log in at the library.

Building

  • One of the windows at the Hanover Branch has been shattered from the outside. Glass unlimited will do the repair and board up the window in the meantime.

  • Scheduled painting and repairs are ongoing at the Hanover Branch.

  • Madison shutters will be removed and repaired.

Technology

  • We are ordering 6 more public use computers; 2 for Madison Adult area, 2 for Children's Department and 2 for Hanover Branch.

Programming

  • Warm Welcome to the Library, in partnership with the Elks Club, will be held Saturday, November 14 and Monday, November 16, giving new coats and books to local children in need. Library employee Joel Curtis will be providing live music during the event.

  • Our library has been chosen to host the 2022 Smithsonian Institute Waterways Exhibit. Several community members will be involved. Library Programming Coordinator, Ann Inman wrote the application. Training will begin in December.

Friends of the Library

  • The last sidewalk sale only made about $100, probably due to weather.

Correspondence

  • Motsinger received a thank you note from Heather Foy for the Children's Department's participation at the "Movie in the Park."

Continuing Business

  • Discussion continued concerning staff raises. Butler made a motion to give all staff a 2.5% raise in 2021. Ryle seconded. Motion carried.

New Business

  • No changes were recommended for the Internet & Computer Use Policy. A public hearing will be held in December before a vote is taken.
