The meeting was opened at 4:03 P.M. by President Rosenberg. Crafton made a motion to approve the agenda. Ryle seconded. Motion carried.

Wurtz made a motion to approve the minutes from the January 2022 regular meeting. Butler seconded. Motion carried.

Financial Report
Culp gave the financial report:

  • Operating Fund expenditures January 14 through February 10, 2022 were $130,732.02. Expenditures from all funds were $146,403.74. Operating Fund receipts were $2,745.46. Receipts to all funds were $17,253.21. Balance in the Operating Fund as of February 10, 2022 was $1,466,522.11. Total bank balance was $1,966,446.92.

  • There were 2 checks over $6,000:

    • $9,903.72 to Jefferson County Treasurer for health insurance premiums.

    • $28,176.95 to AVC Technology for new computers and servers.

Director Terpening’s report

Adult Programming

  • 16 events with 248 attendees.

  • There were 4 Online Painting & Drawing classes with 20 participants, and 4 Landscape Painting & Portrait Drawing classes with 5 attendees.

  • There were 11 Art Show artists.

  • Water/Ways Exhibit was open 7 days a week, including Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and was staffed by volunteers and Library employees.

  • Water/Ways Grand Opening had 42 attendees. 75 attended the Reception and Open House.

  • Dr. Ken Bevis, Professor of Geology at Hanover College, presented "Water Resources of Jefferson County: A Geologist's Perspective." 21 attended.

  • Hanover Book Group had 5 attendees. The Library hosted 7 meetings with 55 attendees.

Children’s Services and Teens Programming

  • 7 programs with 427 attendees.

  • There were 2 Water/Ways programs with a total of 47 attendees.

  • There were 20 Story Times to Go available at Madison and 10 at Hanover.

  • 4 children and 1 young adult won gift cards for Winter Reading.

Circulation

  • Checkout of physical items was down in January compared with 2020.

  • Computer and Wifi usage were up 9%.

  • Social media and website usage were up by 29%.

Staff and Volunteers

  • Terpening thanked board members who have volunteered at the Water/Ways Exhibit.

Community Involvement

  • Inman did an interview with the Cable Advisory Board about Water/Ways. They have been recording all of the Water/Ways programs for Hanover College and the Cable Advisory Board.

  • At the suggestion of Tech Services employee, Joslin, the Library donated 5 boxes of weeded children's books to Canaan Community Academy. They are dedicating a bookshelf to honor a student who passed away from covid.

  • Assistant Director McAlister reported on the February meeting of the Human Relations Commission.

  • Terpening was asked to be on the Jefferson County Broadband & Digital Inclusion Taskforce. The first meeting was February 9. The agenda was to target areas where internet service is spotty or not available at all.

Collection

  • The Library enrolled in the Sustainable Shelves Program with Baker & Taylor. Weeded books can be retuned to the vendor in exchange for a credit. The greatest benefit is reducing the overstock of books in the annex left over from previous book sales.

  • The Overdrive app is converting to the Libby app on February 22.

Legislation

  • Terpening attended Statehouse Day on February 8. She was able to talk with our state senator, our new state senator, after redistricting, and our state representative regarding HB 1134, HB 1040 and SB 17 all of which could affect libraries.

Ongoing and Upcoming Events

  • Water/Ways Exhibit ends on February 20. 

  • Staff Development Day will be February 21. The Library will be closed to the public. 

  • Winter Reading ends February 28. 

  • FOL and the Children's Department will hold a Children's book sale March 10 to 12. 

Technology

  • AVC updated the Director's workstation and installed the new servers.

Miscellaneous

  • Board member, Mary Kay Butler was featured in the February newsletter.

  • The Library was closed on February 3 and 4 because of the red alert travel advisory.

Friends of the Library

  • Children's Book Sale will be held March 10, 11 and 12.

Correspondence

  • Library received a thank you note from an Outreach patron.

Continuing Business - None

New Business

  • Terpening shared some statistics from the Library Annual Report and President Rosenberg signed it. The report will be filed before the due date of March 1.
