The Madison-Jefferson County Public Library joined the growing Evergreen Indiana consortium of libraries. This brings a number of exciting changes.
One card to use at many libraries
We will issue new cards good at all Evergreen Indiana libraries. Nearby, you can borrow materials in Jennings, Jackson and Switzerland counties and even return them here in Jefferson County.
Currently, there are more than 40 Indiana library systems where you can use your Evergreen Indiana card. More than 60 libraries intend to join. (Scroll to bottom for a full listing of libraries)
When you get your new library card, you will also receive new passwords to access your account online. Then you can check your account, place holds and renew materials online.
New higher limits and longer checkouts
An Evergreen card will allow you to check out 100 items simultaneously. This includes 10
DVDs and 10 videos.
Library materials will now circulate for three weeks. You can renew items one time for another three weeks. Videos will remain at one week, but can also be renewed once as long as there are no holds.
We can email you 3 days before your items are due and again later if needed.
Patrons may place up to 20 holds at once. Pick up time will increase to one week. Home libraries get dibs on new books for six months, after that you can place holds on books and audio books from other libraries too.
The Evergreen Indiana online catalog is easy to use. You can search the catalog right from our website homepage.
You can even mix author, title, subject and series words. For example, numerous authors wrote books called eclipse. But if you’re looking for the vampire novel by Stephenie Meyer, try typing “meyer eclipse” to get just her book.
Once you have created your new account, you can create a list of books you’re read or want to read. You can share that list with friends via the library’s catalog. Never again check out a book you’ve already read.
The daily late fee is now 25 cents on all items. For us this means video late fees will go down and books will go up. The maximum per item late fee will be $10. Lost materials charges will be the cost of the item plus a $5 processing fee.
